Have You Heard Of Invisalign Yet? – The New Orthodontics Treatment In Town

Do you have crooked and crowded teeth that make you self conscious while smiling? Are you thinking of getting an orthodontic treatment, but unsure how it would look with braces on your teeth?

Maybe it is time for you to get introduced to the latest category in orthodontics – clear aligner therapy and the most known in that category the Invisalign treatment. As the name might have suggested to you, it’s an orthodontic treatment using invisible, or clear aligner, trays. Unlike traditional metallic, or ceramic braces, Invisalign clear aligners are custom-fitted to your teeth and therefore nearly unnoticeable. They are also easily removable and comfortable, making them a popular choice than braces for teenagers as well as adults.

Here in this article, we discuss the important things you should know about Invisalign treatment.

Understand whether Invisalign is right for you

As with any orthodontic treatment, you will have to make some lifestyle choices for the Invisalign treatment to give you desirable results. The clear aligners must be worn for at least 22 hours a day and must be taken out when you eat or drink anything other than water. Keeping your aligners away for a longer period of time will revert your teeth back to its previous state, which in turn increases the length of the treatment.

Each aligner must be worn for one to two weeks, before moving on to the next set.

Pain and mouthfeel

The Invisalign treatment is nearly painless. However, there will be a slight tenderness to the gums as a sign of the teeth moment. Once you have completed the required wear of one to two weeks, you will change into the next set of aligners. Immediately after you move into your new set of aligners, you will notice some discomfort that disappears once you get used to it, usually within a day or two.

During your course of Invisalign treatment, there may be some initial period to get used to the aligners, which may lead to a slight lisp. Once your tongue gets used to the presence of the aligners, the lisp disappears. And as they are almost clear, they are generally invisible at most times. However, the aligners can discolor, or make your teeth look a bit shinier due to its presence over your teeth.

Caring for the clear aligners

The best way to keep your aligners clean is by brushing them using a small portion of antibacterial soap or normal toothpaste, that doesn’t have whitening agents. The aligners must also be soaked in water with cleaning tablet to freshen up your aligners.

While you are on the treatment, remember to take off your clear aligners before all your meals. You can only drink cold, or room temperature water with your aligners on, as heat can change the shape of your aligners. You also need to brush your teeth every time you eat a meal or a snack to avoid plaque buildup.
