The Invisalign Journey: From Start to Finish

Invisalign has been proven to be a great choice for teeth straightening, but it would be beneficial to do your research and get in touch with those who have undergone the treatment and can attest to the results. It is also imperative to discuss your options with an Invisalign-certified practitioner. Getting Invisalign is a decision to be taken lightly, which means you’ll need to have total confidence in your chosen provider.

Here’s a quick look at the Invisalign journey:

During the initial consultation with your Provider, he or she will do a thorough check of your teeth’s condition to determine whether you are a viable candidate for the Invisalign treatment. Invisalign is useful in treating crowding, overbite, spaces and other malocclusion abnormalities.

Once you and your provider have agreed to go through with Invisalign, a custom-made plan will be created for you. The process starts with digital x-rays, photographs of your teeth and a digital scan of both arches, front and back. This is to carefully map out your initial position of your teeth. It will serve as your Provider’s guide in considering adjustments along the way. Ideally, patients go through treatment for about 12 months, but this varies depending on the severity of your malocclusion and your desired outcome.

The next phase is for the doctor to work with the clinical team at the Invisalign manufacturing facility and develop a 3D simulation of the movements required from the initial stage all the way to the end. The process usually takes 3-5 revisions where your provider, working with the clinical manufacturing team, is modifying the plan to achieve the best treatment quality, in the shortest time possible and with the desired end-position for your teeth based on your input and the provider’s clinical suggestions. Once done, you will be able to review the 3D simulation and have one last visit with your Provider before the aligner order will be sent.

From the approved 3D simulation through the manufacturing process the manufacturer will create molds that will be used in the aligner manufacturing process. Once done, the entire set of aligners required to be used in your specifically designed treatment will be sent to your provider.

Next will be your aligner delivery visit where you will receive the first aligners and your provider will explain exactly what you’ll need to do and when. This will usually follow by monthly short appointments for your provider to monitor the progress and make sure that it is on track.

Patients experience immense relief after the Invisalign treatment, having gone through a life-changing experience. There is also a feeling of elation upon seeing a straight smile and having a corrected bite.
